Chapter 2
Only here for the beer
A novelty of the 1906 Brewersâ Exhibition was a 25hp Napier motor car with a Dutch Spyker chassis and body built to simulate an enormous bottle of Worthington Pale Ale. The vehicle, and a similar car, were laid up during the 1914-18 war, but restored to service in 1919 when they ran in populous centres â particularly in London. In 1921, two further 30hp Daimler Bottle cars with London registrations were added to the fleet. Each cost over £1000 to build; a considerable sum in those days. Two more were built for the company in 1923, including bottle car registration XU 177, now resident at the Coors Visitor Centre & Museum of Brewing.
